ECHO WORKS / WATCHDOG
Privacy Policy
Watchdog is designed as a local diagnostics and security review toolkit. System information inspected during a scan is processed on the computer being reviewed and is not automatically uploaded to an Echo Works account or server in the current release.
Privacy at a glance
- No Watchdog account is required for the current release.
- Diagnostics are performed locally on the computer being scanned.
- Scan results are not automatically uploaded to Echo Works.
- You control whether reports or exported results leave your device.
- Watchdog does not sell diagnostic information or personal data.
1. Who we are
Watchdog is developed and published by Echo Works. This Privacy Policy explains how Watchdog handles information while performing diagnostics and security reviews.
2. Information Watchdog may inspect
Watchdog needs to inspect parts of the computer in order to provide diagnostic and security findings. The exact information accessed depends on the scan or feature you choose and may include:
- operating-system and device information;
- hardware, memory, storage and system-health information;
- security configuration and protection status;
- network or firewall-related configuration relevant to a selected check;
- running services, startup items or other system configuration;
- software, update or vulnerability-related information;
- file or process metadata relevant to a selected security scan; and
- diagnostic findings generated from those checks.
Watchdog is intended to inspect only the information needed for the diagnostic or security function you invoke. The tool is not intended to collect personal files for advertising or profiling.
3. Local processing
In the current release, Watchdog performs its core diagnostic and security-review processing locally on the computer being scanned. Scan results are not automatically transmitted to an Echo Works server for normal operation.
Watchdog does not require an Echo Works cloud account to perform its core Community-mode diagnostics.
4. Reports, logs and exports
Watchdog may display, save or export diagnostic results so that you can review findings or keep a record of a scan. Those files remain under your control.
If you manually upload, email, copy or otherwise share a Watchdog report with another person or service, that destination may process the report under its own privacy practices. Reports can contain technical details about the scanned computer, so you should review them before sharing.
5. Data sent to Echo Works
Watchdog does not automatically send your scan results, system inventory or local diagnostic data to Echo Works in the current release.
If you voluntarily contact Echo Works for support and provide a report, screenshot, log or other diagnostic information, Echo Works will use that information only as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, troubleshoot the issue or improve the product.
6. Downloads and third-party platforms
Watchdog may be downloaded through Echo Works, GitHub or another distribution platform. Those websites and platforms may process normal web or download information, such as IP addresses, browser information, request logs or account information, under their own privacy policies.
This website-level or platform-level processing is separate from the local diagnostics performed by Watchdog itself.
7. Security tools and elevated permissions
Some diagnostic or remediation functions may require Windows permissions that allow Watchdog to inspect protected system information or make an authorised change. Watchdog only requests elevated access when a feature requires it.
You should review remediation actions before applying them, especially on business-critical systems. Watchdog is a diagnostic aid and does not replace professional security, incident-response or system-administration services.
8. Data retention and deletion
Information shown only during a scan is retained only as required by the running application. Reports, logs or exported results that are saved to disk remain on the computer until you delete them.
Uninstalling or deleting the Watchdog application does not automatically delete copies of reports that you previously exported to other folders or storage devices.
9. Accounts, advertising and sale of data
The current Watchdog release does not require an Echo Works account for core use. Watchdog does not use your diagnostic results to build an advertising profile, and Echo Works does not sell your Watchdog scan data.
10. Security
Keeping core diagnostic processing local reduces the amount of system information transmitted to external services. However, no software can guarantee absolute security. You remain responsible for protecting the computer, storage locations and any reports that you choose to save or share.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy as Watchdog develops. We will review it before introducing features that materially change how diagnostic information is transmitted, synchronised, stored remotely, linked to an account or shared with a third party. The latest revision date will be shown at the top of this page.
