Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

BTW Buddy is developed and published by Echo Works. This Privacy Policy explains how BTW Buddy accesses, uses, stores and handles information when you use the app.

2. Information BTW Buddy can store

BTW Buddy stores information that you choose to enter in order to prepare and explain VAT return figures. Depending on how you use the app, this can include:

• tax-profile settings such as language, filing frequency, VAT scheme and default VAT rate;
• quarter information, including year, quarter number and filing status;
• sales and expense records, including dates, descriptions, invoice numbers, supplier or optional client labels, net amounts, VAT amounts, gross amounts and VAT rates;
• business-use percentages and VAT-deduction review choices;
• supporting document metadata and documents you choose to import;
• locally generated return snapshots, PDF summaries and CSV exports; and
• app preferences and local reminder settings.

BTW Buddy does not require you to provide a BSN, DigiD credentials, bank-login credentials or a mandatory VAT identification number.

3. Where your data is stored

Structured BTW Buddy records are stored in the app's local database on your Android device. Supporting document copies are stored in app-private storage. The app uses Android's system document picker when you choose a document, rather than requesting broad access to all files on your device.

Core calculations, validation and export generation are performed locally. BTW Buddy does not require an Echo Works cloud account for its core functionality.

4. Documents and document assistance

You may choose to attach invoices, receipts or other supporting documents to records. BTW Buddy only accesses documents that you deliberately select through Android's document-selection interface.

Where document-reading or OCR assistance is available, extracted values are treated as assistance rather than as authoritative tax data. You remain responsible for reviewing and confirming financial values before they affect your VAT summary. BTW Buddy does not use your supporting documents to build advertising profiles.

5. Data sent to Echo Works

The current release is designed so that your VAT records, transaction details and supporting documents are not transmitted to an Echo Works server for normal app operation. Echo Works therefore does not maintain a central copy of your bookkeeping records and cannot retrieve those local records on your behalf.

6. Sharing and exports

BTW Buddy can create local PDF or CSV exports when you request them. If you choose to save, copy or share an export outside BTW Buddy, the destination you select may process that file according to its own privacy practices.

Echo Works does not sell your BTW Buddy bookkeeping data.

7. Google Play and purchases

BTW Buddy may be distributed through Google Play. Google may process information relating to app downloads, installations, purchases, device services or store operation under Google's own terms and privacy policies.

If a paid BTW Buddy feature or lifetime upgrade is purchased through Google Play, payment processing is handled by Google. Echo Works does not receive your full payment-card or bank-account details from Google Play.

8. Security

BTW Buddy uses Android app-private storage for its local records and document copies and avoids broad storage access for core use. As with any locally stored financial information, the security of the device itself also matters. We recommend using Android's screen-lock and device-security features.

9. Data retention and deletion

Local records remain on your device until you delete them, delete the relevant quarter or attachment, clear BTW Buddy's app data, or uninstall the app. BTW Buddy provides controls for deleting attachments, quarters and app data with confirmation.

Files that you manually export or back up outside BTW Buddy are separate copies. Deleting the original record inside BTW Buddy does not automatically delete copies that you saved elsewhere.

Automated Echo Works cloud synchronisation is not part of the current release. Any device-level backup behaviour provided by Android or your device manufacturer is controlled by those services and your device settings.

10. Accounts

BTW Buddy does not require account creation in the current release. Because there is no BTW Buddy online account, there is no separate server-side account record to delete.

11. Children's privacy

BTW Buddy is a business administration tool intended for people managing VAT records and is not designed or directed specifically to children.

12. Your privacy choices

Because core BTW Buddy data is stored locally, you can manage much of it directly inside the app. You can remove attachments, remove a quarter, clear app data or uninstall the app. If you have a privacy question about Echo Works or BTW Buddy, you can contact us using the address below.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy when BTW Buddy changes. In particular, we will review the policy before adding features that materially change how information is accessed, transmitted, backed up, synchronised or shared. The latest revision date will be shown at the top of this page.
